The surfboard above is a Henna design longboard that was commissioned by Free People (Urban Outfitters sister brand). The board is a hand shaped Phil Grace longboard from our friend Darren at the Quiksilver Surfboards factory in Hossegor. We hand painted it using a lot of white Posca Pens (the best in the business), Montana spray paint and Industrial Matt Varnish. Click the link for more photos of this henna painted surfboard.
This surfboard was commissioned by our friend Johannes at Quiksilver, he wanted a painting of a bear but with a twist. So we filled the outline with authentic Polynesian designs including warrior and family motifs to give him extra strength in the water. The board is a Viper model Bradley Surfboard, click the link for more photos of this surf art project.
This surfboard was hand painted for our friend David who manages the Quiksilver Boardriders Club in Biarritz. He wanted a vintage signwriting style design for this board, so we drew some old school tattoo, thrift store and barber shop logos on the bottom. We painted an aztec inspired surf art design, which was commissioned by Free People, on a 7’2″ surfboard from Euroglass surfboard factory in Hossegor. The original artwork was a bit too simple, so we improved it by adding a lot more detail in the triangles and around the edges of the design. It’s not everyday that you get to draw boobs and get paid for it. That’s why we were happy to paint this surfboard commissioned by Fred from Nixon Watches. Fred managed to break this board the 1st surf he had after it was painted, maybe that’s karma? There’s not much else to say about this surf art project except that the board is a Tomo Surfboard, click the link for more photos.
We were painting surfboards at the Quiksilver Surfboards BBQ during the Quik Pro France 2013 and we got to meet one of our idols. Tom Carroll chatted to us for ages about surfing and surf art. He was really down to earth and didn’t think he was to important to spend some time with us mere mortals. Click the link of you want to see more photos of us in action painting surfboards.
This surfboard is one of the ones that we painted for Quiksilver Surfboards at their annual BBQ. It’s a wolf’s head filled with aztec linework. This board is also a Christiaan Bradley Surfboard, click the link for more photos of this surf art project.
This surfboard is from our own quiver, it is a 7’6″ funboard shaped by Phil Grace. The design is an all-over aztec nspired surf art design with loads of colour sprayed on and then linework done using Posca Pens. Click the link for more photos of this aztec surfboard design.
This swallowtail surfboard was another commission by Free People (Urban Outfitters) on a 6’2″ from Euroglass surfboard factory in Hossegor. The design was sent to us and we liked it, so we didn’t change it too much. It kind of reminded us of Jeff Ho + Craig Stecyk style surf art when it was finished. You can see more photos of this board for Urban Outfitters sister company Free People by clicking the link.
This was the biggest board we’ve painted, it’s a 10’6″ Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) which was also commissioned by Free People. The board is an ST Comp epoxy SUP, also from the Quiksilver Surfboard factory. It took a while to find someone who would ship this to the USA, we have to thank our friend Darren again for helping us get it across the Atlantic. There are more photos of this surf art project if you click the Stand Up Paddle Board link.
